  • Pembroke Sno Spree
This year’s winter celebration will be held on February 4-7, 2010.
Our focus again in 2010 will be exclusively on children and youth, and as a result, we are in the midst of organizing an action packed day at SnoSpree Central (aka L’Equinoxe school gymnasium).
There will be musicians, magicians, jugglers and dancers as well as interactive activity stations, all designed to bring out the child in everyone!
SnoSpree Central will be open from 12 noon – 4 pm and if last year’s attendance is any indication for this year, we’re anticipating lots of families will be on site.

While our focus will be on children, we are also hosting the First Annual Parade of Snowmen Decorating Competition.
The competition is open to any business, group, or institution in the community and is free to enter.
The Recreation Department has 21 plywood snowmen silhouettes that have been donated by local businesses. Participants must come up with creative and fun ways to paint and decorate both sides of their snowmen.
This is a great team building exercise! Once completed they will all be installed on the light standards in downtown Pembroke where they will remain throughout last week of January and the month of February.
During this time, the Snowmen will be viewed on line as well, as part of a silent auction open to the public. Proceeds raised for each snowman will go directly to the charity of your choice.

There are only 21 silhouettes this year, and registration is first come, first serve! So don’t delay! Once the registration form has been completed and faxed or dropped off at the PMC at 393 Pembroke St. W, the Recreation Department will contact you to come and pick up your Snowman cut out!

Pembroke’s SnoSpree 2010 is your winter getaway to good ol’ fashion family fun! Check out all the exciting action happening between Feb 4th to the 7th, 2010! There is something for everyone! Details at PembrokeFestivals.com

  • Build a Snowchild – 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
    Renfrew – Low Square from 1:00pm – 3:00pm.
Renfrew County Family and Children Services (FCS) are offering a unique way for families to show their support for the local fostering community!!!
There are 280 children needing foster care in our county in any given month, there are only 140 foster homes ready to receive them.
This event is orchestrated to build awareness within our community of the need for Foster families and families looking to foster with a view to adopt.
Show your support by building a snowman- not just any snowman but a “snow child” that represents one of the children currently needing foster care in Renfrew County.

By simply calling prior to the event you will be given a profile of a child that you will then build on Monday, February 15 (Family Day) in Low Square.
By the end of the day, organizers hope to have a crowd of 280 snowmen standing in the park.
Families are being encouraged to dress their “snow child” in a snow suit or pants and a shirt. Usable clothing will be collected after the event and distributed to families in need.

We want families to be creative and to spend time talking to each other while they build,” says Lavallee. They might dress up the standard three stacked balls of snow, or they might stuff a snowsuit full of the white stuff and show the snow child skiing down a hill.
Participants can simply show up at Renfrew’s Town Hall the day of the event, but are encouraged to call prior to the event to receive a child’s name and description and plan their “snow child” in advance.
    613-622-1482 or 613-433-3138.
Hot chocolate will be available free of charge.
